Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
A red shield shaped device with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, the overall dimensions 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width, on which is a white head of a wolf, vignetted at the neck, detailed gray, eye and nose black.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved 11 March 1975.
Shoulder Loop Insignia
A gold color metal and enamel insignia 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield divided horizontally into two equal halves gray over red, the lower half bearing a gold demi-sun in splendor surmounted by a gold bear on a green mound. Attached below the shield an arced gray scroll inscribed "LOS ANGELES USD" in gold letters.
The shoulder loop insignia was originally approved 20 November 1931. It was amended on 10 May 1976 to add a motto scroll.
