Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon

On a blue rectangular shaped embroidered item, arched convexly at the top and bottom, overall dimensions 3 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 inches (6.35 cm) in width, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Silver Gray border, a White pirate ship on sea Proper.  Attached above the rectangle,  a blue scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) silver gray border inscribed MATANZAS in white letters.  Attached below the rectangle, a blue scroll, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) silver gray border, inscribed PIRATES in white letters.


Symbolism

Blue, silver and white are the school colors. The ship alludes to the namesake of the schools mascot the Pirate. The ocean signifies the ever changing modern technology, training and the cadets academic pursuit for knowledge.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized on 28 July, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings and to add the ACU color conversions on 14 August 2018.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-766)

Description

On a shield shaped silver metal and epoxied device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Sable, a demi stylized pirates bust affronte Argent (Silver).  Attached below the shield, a blue scroll inscribed MATANZAS PIRATES in silver.


Symbolism

The pirate, a bold and daring adventurer, is the mascot of the school and captures the courageous spirit of the cadets. Blue, white, and silver are the school colors.


Background

 The shoulder loop insignia was authorized on 14 August 2018.
