Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
A shield-shaped device with arched scroll below the shield, all edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) border; the overall dimensions 3 3/8 inches (8.57 cm) in height and 2 9/16 inches (6.51 cm) in width at its widest point, consisting of a solid color shield bearing a diagonal band extended from the viewer's upper left to lower right. On the scroll is the designation of the applicable school. Colors are identified on the attached cable numbers list.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 15 December 2008. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-422)
Shoulder Loop Insignia
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height consisting of a silver shield bearing a gold brown lamp issuing a cloud of gold brown smoke rising and extending above the shield and bearing a silver star. Attached below the shield a red triparted scroll inscribed "DETROIT HIGH SCHOOLS" in silver letters.
The lamp of knowledge symbolizes the purpose and function of the school system. Gold and silver suggest the quality and excellence of the staff and faculty. The star alludes to the school district's logo and refers to the excellence that the students strive towards.
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 19 May 1989.
