Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a blue disc shaped embroidered item edged with a narrow white circular border, a red flame behind three stylized white peaks superimposed by a demi blue torch, all issuing from base; all within a circular red designation band, edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32cm) white border, with the arched inscriptions “RENO HIGH SCHOOL” above and “1919” below in white letters. Overall diameter is 2-5/8 inches (8.89 cm).


Symbolism

Red and blue are the school colors. The stylized peaks symbolize the Sierra Nevada Mountains, a landmark of Reno, also denoting the location of Reno High School. The flame and the top of the torch holder signifies knowledge.

Blazon

On a silver metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1-1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in width blazoned as follows: Gules, issuant from base a demi husky baying to sinister Azure, detailed Argent; in dexter chief, a mullet Argent (Silver). Attached above the shield, a blue scroll inscribed “RESPECT” in silver letters. Attached below the shield, a blue scroll inscribed “HONOR STRENGTH” in silver letters.


Symbolism

Red and blue are the school colors. The Silver Star highlights the nickname for the state of Nevada, as the ‘Silver State.’ The blue husky is the school’s mascot, exemplifying the cadets’ grit and adaptability to overcome adversity.
