Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
A red rectangular-shaped device with red arced scrolls attached above and below, the scrolls separated from the central portion by a white edge 1/16 inch (.16 cm) in width, all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, the overall dimensions 3 5/8 inches (9.21 cm) in length and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width; on the central portion the head of a Viking couped, face white, detailed black, mustache, and hair yellow garnished black, garbed in a black helmet garnished and winged white; on the upper arced scroll, the inscription "AVERY" and on the lower scroll, the inscription "VIKINGS" in white letters 3/8 inch (.95 cm) in height.

Symbolism
Red, black and white are the school's colors. The Viking is the school's mascot.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 30 April 1982 and amended to update colors and measurements on 24 June 1992.

Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height consisting of a triparted circular shield red to sinister bearing a silver battle axe, silver to dexter bearing a green stylized pine bough, black in base charged with a silver open book. Attached below an arcing black scroll inscribed "EXCELLENCE THROUGH EFFORT" in silver letters between silver motifs ending in silver Viking style horse heads addorsed.

Symbolism
Red, black and white (silver) are the school's colors. The battle axe reflects the cadet's military training. The open book denotes the academic instruction offered by the school. The pine bough alludes to the school's location in an area where fir trees are a major agricultural industry. The round shield and Viking horse heads symbolize the school's nickname "The Vikings".

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was approved on 24 June 1992.
