Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a yellow arrowhead point up with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) maroon border, a maroon Indian head in profile detailed yellow above the inscription in the Cherokee alphabet "GWY" in 3/8 inch (.95 cm) maroon letters. The overall dimensions being 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 3 1/8 inches (7.94 cm) in width.

Symbolism
The school colors are maroon and gold. The arrowhead suggests the school's namesake and is inscribed with the letters "GWY" which in the Cherokee alphabet allude to the tribe. The Indian head refers to the school motto: "BRAVES."

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 19 December 1988. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-113)

Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall, consisting of a vertical gold chipped arrowhead, point up, notched and inscribed at bottom in maroon (transparent) Cherokee alphabet letters "GWY." Attached to the left of the arrowhead is an arc of several maroon (transparent) feathers interspersed with two gold strings of beads.

Symbolism
Maroon and gold are the school's colors. The arrangement of feathers represents the Cherokee brave and suggests cadet's training in military aspects. The strings of beads refer to traditional Cherokee craftsmanship and reflect the cadets' resourcefulness with materials. The arrowhead symbolizes defense and the cadets' dedication to defend their country. The inscription "GWY" in the Cherokee alphabet alludes to the significant number of students who are members of the tribe.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 24 December 1991.
