Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
An embroidered shield shaped device edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Ultramarine Blue border, blazoned: Argent (Silver Gray), a bare tree Proper, surmounted by a wildcat of the field, detailed Azure. Attached above is a Silver Gray scrolled edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Ultramarine Blue border inscribed "GARINGER" in Ultramarine Blue letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in width.

Symbolism
The school colors are blue and gray. The wildcat is the school mascot.

The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 28 May 2009. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-888).

Blazon

On a silver metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Azure, in chief a stylized wildcat head affrontée Argent (Silver), detailed of the first, between two branches of laurel saltirewise in base, a mullet; all of the second. Attached below the shield, a silver scroll inscribed “ESTAMOS, GARINGER, UNIDOS” in blue letters.


Symbolism

Blue and gray are the school colors. The wildcat is the school’s mascot. The branches of laurel in base consist of 18 leaves which represent the 18 veterans from Garinger High School that perished in the Vietnam War.  Placed between the branches, the star denotes an Honor Unit with Distinction. The Spanish words “ESTAMOS,” GARINGER,” UNIDOS” translate in English to “We’re Garinger United”, which refers to the concept that each cadet should embody, internalize, and uphold the meaning of the Cadet Creed and JROTC values.
