Significance

Red, white and blue are the school colors. The torch with blue flame

illustrates the school’s mascot “The Blue Flame” denoting energetic

pursuit of knowledge and growth. The origins of the Blue Flame dates back

to the 1920's, where the editor of the Pickens Sentinel, Gary Hiott, Sr. (who

devised the name), wrote that the Pickens football team “charged through

the opposing defense like a blue flame.” The two point’s dancetty/conjoined

wedges symbolizes the mountain ranges that surround the city of Pickens,

South Carolina.
