Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a purple disc with an 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter overall, three stars between a stylized "Y" throughout all yellow.

Symbolism
Purple and gold (yellow) are the school colors. The three stars in a circle are adapted from the Tennessee State flag and refer to the unit's location. The division of the disc with a stylized "Y" refers to the school name, York Institute.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 16 July 1985.




Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield blazoned: Purpure, a saltire Or, overall a bezant charged with a pall couped of the first between a scroll and quill in chief, a lyre and artist's palette in dexter, a winged foot in sinister and a sheaf of wheat, plow and two interlocked gears in base all Or, and attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed "PREPARE AND EXCEL" in Purple letters.

Symbolism
Purple and gold are the school colors; the charges on the shield symbolize education, the arts, progress technology and agriculture. The bezant at center alludes to the sun and excellence. It is charged with a pall, forming a stylized "Y" and symbolizing York Institute.

The shoulder loop insignia was approved on 16 July 1985.
