Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a yellow square edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border wavy, an inner concentric narrow blue border between the wavy inscriptions "HIDALGO" at top and "HIGH SCHOOL" at bottom in blue letters. Overall a yellow "pirate" face affront detailed black and white wearing a black hat and surmounting a pair of cutlasses in saltire, blades white, hilts black. The overall dimensions are 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in height by 3 inches (7.62 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Blue and white are the school colors. The mascot is the pirate. The shape of the shield denotes a flag waving in the air. The pirate with crossed sables signifies the "Jolly Roger," the symbol of the pirate flag and ship.

Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in diameter overall consisting of a gold disc with a blue base barry wavy of four encircled by a gold designation band inscribed "MIGHTY PIRATES" in black letters in base. Overall a black ship in full sail with white sails displaying a blue flag.

Symbolism
Blue and gold are the school colors. The waves represent the Rio Grande River. The ship symbolizes a pirate's vessel sailing along the Rio Grande River.

The shoulder loop insignia was approved 10 October 1996.
