On a Royal Blue shield-shaped embroidered item the overall dimensions being 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 5/8 inches (6.67 cm) in width overall, blazoned: Azure, a cross fillet Argent cantoned by, in the first quarter an open book surmounted by a quill pen bendwise White, in the second quarter a mask of comedy conjoined with a lyre Or, in the third quarter a molecular symbol of the like and in the fourth quarter a winged foot of the third, all within a diminished bordure of the second. Attached above the shield a Blue scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Silver Gray border and inscribed "ROBERT M. SHOEMAKER" in Silver Gray letters.

The comedy mask and lyre represent commitment to the liberal and fine arts. The molecular symbol represents the goal of being leaders in Math, Science and Engineering. The winged foot reflects the commitment and desire to achieve in athletics and maintain a high level of physical fitness.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 30 April 2002.
