Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
An embroidered device consisting of a white oval partially enclosed in a 1/16 inch (.16 cm) red edge displaying a medieval knight on horseback holding a shield bearing the head of a panther. The panther on the shield is black. The knight's mailed armor and helmet are gray with red ribbons extending from the top of the helmet. The knight's surcoat, lance, and the horse's padded coat are blue. The shield and letters are red. The horse and bridle are white. Enclosing that is a white oval designation band inscribed "SPOTSYLVANIA" below the knight in red block letters. The entire device is edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border. Overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 3 1/16 inches (7.78 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Red, white, and blue are the school's colors. The school's mascot is the knight and symbolizes courage, wisdom, perseverance, and the Cadets' fierce winning spirit. The panther head on the knight's shield represents the students at Massaponax High School who participate in the ROTC program with Spotsylvania High School.

Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel shield shaped device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Quarterly, Azure, in the first quarter an open book, in the second quarter a lyre, in the third quarter a representation of an atomic symbol, and in the fourth quarter a winged foot all Argent. On a chief of the first embattled of the second, a pair of swords saltirewise points downward. Above the shield, a knight's helmet with feather plume Silver Gray. Attached on each side of the shield is a mantling of leaves Gules. Attached below the shield, a Red scroll inscribed "SPOTSYLVANIA" in base metal letters.

Symbolism
Blue and red are the school's colors. The knight is the school's mascot. The book represents scholarly achievement and knowledge. The lyre is symbolic of music, drama, and the arts. The atomic symbol alludes to the guardianship of wisdom and education. The winged shoe pertains to athletics and sportsmanship.
