Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
An embroidered device consisting of a white rectangular shape arched at each end. The device is enclosed in a 1/16 inch (.16 cm) blue edge displaying the head, shoulders, and hands of a pioneer holding a black powder rifle. The pioneer's face, hands, neck, rifle, coonskin cap, and fringed buckskin shirt are gray with blue details. Enclosing that, a gray designation band inscribed "THOMAS WALKER" above the pioneer and "HIGH SCHOOL" below in blue block letters. The entire device is edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border. Overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Blue and gray are the school's colors. The mascot is the pioneer and represents Dr. Thomas Walker and the many other brave pioneers who risked their lives and fortunes traveling through the Ewing, Virginia area on their way to the Cumberland Gap and the territory west of the Appalachian Mountains during the 1700's. The pioneer symbolizes courage, wisdom, perseverance, and the cadets' fierce winning spirit.

Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Azure, a bend Argent (Silver Gray) superimposed by the head and shoulders of a pioneer holding a rifle fesswise all Or. Attached below the shield, a Blue scroll inscribed "PIONEERS" in base metal letters.
