Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a shield-shaped embroidered device edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) White border blazoned as follows: Purpure, an atomic symbol between the mask of Tragedy to dexter chief and the mask of Comedy to sinister chief, in base three gears in chevron reversed, all Argent; on a chief Gules, edged at base of the last four pales Azure, each charged with mullets, one, two, two, and one, Argent.  Attached   above the shield an arcing Purpure scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) White border inscribed "HAMMOND" in White letters.  The overall dimensions are 3 5/8 inches (9.21 cm) in height by 3 inches (7.62 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Red, white, and blue the national colors represent duty, honor, country-interpreted by the cadets as Americanism, citizenship, patriotism, loyalty, integrity, values, and ethics.  Purple is the school colors and primary color in the state of Louisiana.  The masks of Tragedy and Comedy suggest the arts.   The atomic symbol denotes the sciences.  The gear wheels reflect technology and the industrial arts; together they symbolize the full curriculum provided by the school to the cadets.  The stars in chief represent the pride and dedication the cadets have for the school, community, and country.
