Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
A disc 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter overall consisting of an inner blue disc bearing a yellow bee hive surmounted by a white Mexican sabre and a pioneer musket in saltire, the disc within a white band edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, the band inscribed "BRIGHAM" at the top and "YOUNG" in base in blue letters 3/8 inch (.95 cm) in height.

Symbolism
Royal blue and white are the colors of the University.  The bee hive, from the State seal of Utah and the University seal, represents the geographic location of the University.  The musket alludes to the pioneer settlement of Utah; the sabre is representative of the achievement of the Mormon Battalion during the Mexican War.  The sabre and musket in saltire also represent military training and leadership in the ROTC program.

Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel shield and scroll 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in width, consisting of a shield divided per pairle, white in chief, blue to dexter and yellow to sinister, on the blue a yellow demi-torch enflamed; on the yellow a brown bee hive, overall in chief a gold cougar passant.  Attached below the shield a blue scroll inscribed "BRIGHAM YOUNG" in silver letters.

Symbolism
Royal blue and white (silver) are the colors of the University.  The heraldic division of the shield "per pairle" forms a "Y."  The cougar, the mascot of the University exemplifies the spirit of the University.  The enflamed demi-torch alludes to the fervor for knowledge.  The bee hive, from the State seal of Utah and the University seal, represents the geographic location of the University.
