A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in diameter overall consisting of an orange disc displaying at the center Chief Powhatan's headdress with orange feathers and black tips, headband black, edged and detailed in base metal, all encircled by a black designation band and inscribed "POWHATAN HIGH SCHOOL" at top and "INDIANS" at bottom in base metal letters.
Black and orange are the school colors. The Indian is the school's mascot. Chief Powhatan's headdress represents leadership, knowledge and wisdom. Powhatan County has a rich history and was named in honor of Chief Powhatan (father of Pocahontas).
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 12 May 2010.
