Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a white vertical rectangular embroidered item arched convexly at top and bottom edged with a 1/8 (.32 cm) dark blue border, a silver gray stylized Jaguar head couped in profile to left, outlined in dark blue and detailed in dark blue and white. Attached above the rectangle, a silver gray scroll edged with a 1/8 (.32 cm) dark blue border inscribed AUGUSTA in dark blue letters. Attached below rectangle, a silver gray scroll inscribed JAGUARS in dark blue letters. Overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width. 


Symbolism

The jaguar is the schools mascot; powerful and commanding respect. Dark blue and silver gray are the school colors. Silver represents wisdom and peace, blue alludes to truth and loyalty. White embodies purity and clarity.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 1 November 1977.  It was cancelled due to the school name change on 31 October 1996. A new design was authorized on 19 March 2010, currently cancelled due to a new design and description and symbolism on 14 Sept 2016. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-268)

Description

A Silver color metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Azure, issuant from base a demi stylized bell tower Argent detailed of the first, all within a diminished bordure of the second. Attached below the shield, a Dark Blue scroll inscribed with JAGUAR STRONG in Silver letters.


Symbolism

Silver and dark blue are the university colors. The reversed pile/wedge displaying the stylized bell symbolizes the bell tower (adapted from the Augusta University Seal), alluding to the cadets sustainment of academic achievement. The bell itself embodies the spirit and strength the students share with the university.

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 10 April 1978.  It was cancelled due to the school name change on 31 October 1996. A new design was authorized on 19 March 2010, currently cancelled due to a new design and description and symbolism on 14 Sept 2016.
