Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a gold vertical rectangle arched convexly at top and bottom edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) green border, a gold stylized Highlander's head affront with beret shaded green, the beret displaying a gold heraldic lion rampant and a gold feather.  Attached above the rectangle, a gold scroll inscribed "HUNTINGTON" in green letters.  Attached below the rectangle, a gold scroll inscribed    HIGHLANDERS" in green letters.  The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Green and gold are the school colors.  The school's mascot is the Highlander.  The silhouetted highlander face charged with a lion rampant on its beret alludes to the Scottish heritage of early settlers of the West Virginia highlands and to Sir William Wallace representative of the Lord Protector of Scotland.

Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel shield shaped device accousted and supported by two embowed arms armored wielding swords points to chief, 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: In chief indented Or and Vert, below a bar Azure, in base tierced in pairle of the second and Argent, the first charged with Mercury's winged foot of the first, the second charged with the lamp of knowledge of the last, the third charged with an open book of the fourth edged Yellow.  Attached below the shield a Green scroll inscribed "BY FAITH AND SERVICE" in Gold letters.

Symbolism
Green and gold are the school colors.  The swords allude to the Scottish heritage of early settlers of the West Virginia highlands and to Sir William Wallace representative of the Lord Protector of Scotland.  The green mountains symbolize West Virginia.  The blue bar signifies the Ohio River.  The winged foot of Mercury represents athletics and physical fitness.  The lamp of knowledge represents enlightenment.  The open book symbolizes learning through education.
