Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a hexagonal shaped embroidered device edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) gold border.  Between two black scrolls a black hexagonal shape edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) gold border, and charged with a gold hornet.  Attached above the hexagon, a black scroll inscribed "SMHS" in gold letters.  Attached below the hexagon, a black scroll inscribed "HORNETS" in gold letters.  The overall dimensions are 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Black and gold are the school colors.  The hornet is the school's mascot and indicates teamwork and community.  The hexagonal shape is reminiscent of the hornets' nest structure.

A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a shield blazoned:  Sable, a bend sinister Or charged with three hornets bendwise sinister of the first.  Attached below the shield a Black a triparted scroll inscribed "DUTY INTEGRITY HONOR" in Gold letters.

Symbolism
Black and gold are the school colors.  The hornet is the school's mascot and indicates teamwork and community.  Three hornets reaffirm the three word motto "DUTY, INTEGRITY, HONOR".

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 06 August 2010.
