Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
An oval-shaped item consisting of an inner blue disc on which is the orange head of a bear couped  irregularly at the neck, detailed blue, within an orange band inscribed from left to right "MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY" and in base "BEARS" in blue letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height,  the two inscriptions separated by a dot.  The overall dimensions are 3 inches

Symbolism
Blue and orange are the colors of the University.  The bear, the mascot of the University, renowned for its spirit and tenacity, represents the qualities demonstrated by the cadets in academic, physical and military endeavors.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 15 June 1976.  It was amended to include subdued colors on 5 June 1987.  (TIOH Drawing A-10S-22)




Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height overall consisting of a blazoned shield. Quarterly, divided the first and fourth quarter paly of six piece Or, (Gold) and Sable, a bend counterchanged; second and third quarters, quarterly Argent and Gules, a cross bottony counterchanged, overall on a pale Azure, a torch enflamed of the first.  On top of the shield a Blue bar bearing in inscription STEADFAST" in Gold letters, and base a Blue scroll, roughly in shape of a trefoil, bearing the inscription "MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY" in Gold letters.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized for the Morgan State College 28 June 1956; it was amended 21 January 1976, to reflect designation of Morgan State University.
