Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
A triangular-shaped device with rounded top and bottom edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yell0ow border, the overall dimension 3 inchers (7.62 cm) in height and 2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in width at its widest point, consisting of background diagonally divided from the viewer's upper right to lower left yellow above blue; centered overall a red ax inscribed "NAU" in yellow letters.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 14 April 1982.




Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a blue enamel shield on which is a gold ax vertically centered below a gold chief with four blue enamel rays throughout.  Attached along the sides and below the shield a gold three-segmented scroll
inscribed "NORTHERN" on the dexter segment, "ARIZONA" in base and "UNIVERSITY" on the sinister segment, in blue enamel letters.

Symbolism
Blue and gold are the colors of the University.  The ax represents the University's "Lumberjack".  The rayed chief is taken from the seal of the University.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 20 August 1982.
