Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a white rectangular device arched convexly top and bottom, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border displaying a patriot.  Attached above the rectangle, a white scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border inscribed "PATRIOT" in red letters.  Attached below the rectangle, a white scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border inscribed "BATTALION" in red letters.  The overall dimensions 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 7/16 inches (6.19 cm) in width.

Symbolism
The Patriot alludes to the school year that Jefferson County High School opened, 1975-1976, which was also the celebration of the American Bi-Centennial.  Red, white, and blue are the schools colors.  Red signifies courage and represents the courageous ambition of the Patriot Battalion.  Blue denotes truth, which every cadet must strive for.  White is emblematic of the honor to be a JROTC cadet.

Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield, blazoned: Gules, a fret Argent.  Attached above two hands, blue, outstretched and clasping, all beneath three textured mountain tops.  Attached below the shield a Blue scroll, folds red, and inscribed "JEFFERSON COUNTY" in Silver letters.  Between the shield and scroll base metal, rayed.

Symbolism
The shield is quartered by the fret, signifying the four original county schools.  The center diamond represents the location of Jefferson County High School which is in the geometric center of the county.  The shape of the shield is borrowed from the school's crest.  The two clasped hands symbolize the cooperation between students and faculty members.  Three stylized mountains cap the device and also allude to the location of the school, in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains.
