Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a rectangular embroidered device with a rounded top edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) dark blue border displaying a war shield of the Cheyenne American Indian tribe.  The shield consists of two colors with buff at the top and dark blue below.  Across the center is a horizontal band, buff in color, with conjoined diamond shapes in dark blue. Centered at the top and above the band is a stylized cross dark blue in color with a buff color cross below the band. Eleven buff colored eagle feathers with dark blue tips surround the shield. The feathers have blue and white beads on the ends and are attached to the shield with buff leather strips in the shape of the alphabet letter "X".  Attached below the rectangle is a buff color designation band inscribed "CHEYENNE" in blue block letters.  The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Blue and tan are the school's colors. Blue symbolizes loyalty. Tan alludes to courage in battle.  The war shield is the school's mascot and represents protection and defense from the enemy's weapons.  The two cross shapes refer to the four ages of life, infancy, youth, middle and old age.  The feathers portray acts of bravery and are believed to have the power medicine of the Great Spirit.  The shields were made from bison skin with pictographic designs painted on them and were believed to have magical properties.  The designs were inspired from nature and spiritual belief (protective symbols or physical manifestations of the spirit world).  The Cheyenne were named by the Sioux and the name translates to "People of a different language."  The school's motto is "DESERT SHIELDS."

Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield in the shape of an arrowhead blazoned:  Azure, a disk Argent, on a fess cotised bearing eight conjoined lozenges between four plates each charged with a cross pattee throughout and overall a stylized eagle displayed wings inverted, the disk is entoured by twelve beaded eagle feathers all of the second.  Attached below the shield is a Blue scroll inscribed "DESERT SHIELDS" in base metal letters.

Blue and tan are the school's colors.  The Cheyenne American Indian war shield is the school's mascot and represents protection from the enemy's weapon's and was believed to have magical properties.  The arrowhead symbolizes alertness while the stylized bird alludes to the sacred bearer of unlimited happiness.  The four round shapes refer to the four stages of life: infancy, youth, middle, and old age.  The circle was an important symbol to the Cheyenne in spiritual, social, and political life.  The feathers portray acts of courage and bravery and are believed to have the powerful medicine of the Great Spirit.  The school motto is "DESERT SHIELDS".
