A circular item 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter overall, consisting of an inner light blue disc on which a red steer's head affront couped, detailed white; around the disc a white band edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) red border, inscribed "WESTWOOD" at top and "LONGHORNS" on the bottom in red letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.
Red, white, and blue are the colors of the Westwood High School Longhorn Battalion. The longhorn steer is the mascot of Westwood High. Red symbolizes the passion of each cadet to acquire military training while enrolled in high school. The white band is emblematic of honor and excellence. Blue represents the devotion every member of the Longhorn Battalion holds for his or her studies.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 18 February 1970. It was amended to change the school's mascot and update the description and symbolism of the new design on 25 February 2011.
