Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
 On a shield shaped embroidered device edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Black border, blazoned as follows: Quarterly Or and Vert, surmounted demeaned chevron Sable charged with an open  scroll and quill pen of the first, above and overall the quarters a musket and  sword crossed in saltire of the third. Attached above the shield, a Black arched scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Black border inscribed "PATRIOTS" in Yellow letters.  The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 3 inches (7.62 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Green and gold are the colors George Mason University.  The patriot is the school's mascot.  Green is emblematic of the honor, courtesy, adaptability, and youth demonstrated by the Cadets in their academic endeavors. Gold signifies nobleness, honor, and wisdom which the cadets strive to achieve in all aspects of life. The swords allude to the Scottish heritage of the early Virginia settlers and the flintlock rifle to pioneer Americans. The unfurled scroll and quill pen represents the enlightenment through education which George Mason encouraged.

Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel shield shaped device blazoned: Vert, per chevron Sable, in chief a tri-parted patriot hat Or, shaded of the second, in base an open scroll and quill pen palewise between a musket and sword crossed in saltire, deadly ends up, all of the third.  Attached below the shield, a Green scroll inscribed "GEORGE MASON" in Gold letters.

Symbolism
The school colors are Green and Gold. Green is emblematic of the honor, courtesy, adaptability, and youth demonstrated by the Cadets in their academic endeavors. Gold signifies nobleness, honor, and wisdom which the cadets strive to achieve in all aspects of life. The swords allude to the Scottish heritage of the early Virginia settlers and the flintlock rifle to pioneer Americans. The tri parted hat, symbolizes colonial pilgrims such as George Mason. The unfurled scroll and quill pen represents the enlightenment through education which George Mason encouraged. The school mascot is the Patriots.
