Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a yellow shield 2 5/8 inches (6.67 cm) in height and 3 inches (7.62 cm) in width, a maroon representation of the State of Montana charged with a silver gray bear with maroon outlines.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 28 July 1955.




Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description/Blazon
A silver metal enamel insignia 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height overall, consisting of a maroon shield bearing a yellow band between a torch above and the letter "M" below, both silver; the shield above a silver scroll inscribed "UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA" in maroon letters, and surmounted by a silver bear standing on a wreath composed of alternate twists of silver and maroon.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was originally approved for Montana State University on 25 April 1995.  It was amended to change the designation scroll to read university of Montana on 14 August 1984.
