A shield-shaped device with a horizontal scroll attached above the shield, the overall dimensions 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 5/8 inches (6.67 cm) in width, the shield divided per fess embattled scarlet and blue edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border, on the scarlet two yellow fleurs-de-lis and on the blue one yellow fleur-de-lis. On a scarlet scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border the inscription "DE PAUL" in blue letter 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.
Scarlet and blue are colors of DePaul University. The three fleurs-de-lis represent two early French explorers, Louis Joliet and Father Jacques Marquette and the first permanent settler, Jean Bastiste Point Sable, three prominent figures in the history of the State of Illinois. The embattled base alludes to Fort Dearborn.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 2 January 1975.
