Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
On a red disc shaped embroidered item 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter: A black stylized mountain range capped in white surmounted by a red wildcats head detailed black, teeth and edged in white, and tongue red, facing right, all within a red designation band with CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY inscribed above and 1891 below, between a star on each side, all in white; all within a narrow 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) black border.
Red and black are the school colors. The Wildcat is the schools mascot; fierce and determined. The mountain silhouette alludes to the eastern foothills of the Cascade mountain range, where the school is located.
The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was originally authorized on 9 January 1995. It was cancelled due to a new design on 17 August 2001, currently cancelled on 2 February 2016 for a updated description and symbolism of the new design (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-250)
Shoulder Loop Insignia
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a red shield bearing a stylized silver building; attached below the shield a black scroll doubled silver and inscribed DOCENDO DISCIMUS" in silver letters.
The school colors are black and red. The device is an adaptation of the school seal.
The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 28 August 1985.
