Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a Black shield shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Scarlet border, consisting of a shield blazoned:  Sable an inesutcheon of the first edged Gules, bearing a jaguar's head of the second, garnished Black, tuffs of the ear, mouth and neck Argent, below the inscription "SOUTHSIDE ACADEMY" in White letters.  The overall dimensions are 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Black and red are the school colors. The school's mascot is the Jaguar signifying initiative and daring.  Black represents determination, red signifies patriotism. The shape and design of the shield is taken from the Baltimore City flag and shows the cadet's allegiance to their City, Community and School.

Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Gules, three Jaguars per pale, reversed, courant, Argent (Silver), all within a bordure Sable.  Supported by a folded scroll Black turned Red bowed to top and bottom and inscribed to top with "SOUTHSIDE ACADEMY" and to bottom with "JAGUARS" in Silver letters.

The shape and design of the shield is taken from the Baltimore City flag and shows the cadet's allegiance to their City, Community and School. The use of three running Jaguars is to make reference to the motto's three focal words "Learners, Leaders, and Achievers".
