Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a yellow vertical rectangular shaped embroidered item arched convexly at the top and bottom and edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border. Displaying a black stylized honeycomb nest surmounted by a silhouette of a yellow jacket insect with white details.   Attached above the rectangle, a yellow scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border inscribed "ROANOKE" in black letters.  Attached below the rectangle, a yellow scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border inscribed "RAPIDS" in black letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 5/8 inches (6.67 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Yellow and black are the school's colors.  Traditionally the color yellow represents the excellence, honor and wisdom that the cadet's show for their school and country. Black symbolizes the cadet's dignity, sophistication and determination. The yellow jacket is the school's mascot and is indicative of the fighting spirit of the school. The stylized nest denotes protection and fierceness.

Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in width overall consisting of shield blazoned: Per chevron Sable and Or, in chief a stylized yellow jacket's nest throughout and in base a yellow jacket insect rising, wings elevated and addorsed Black. Encircling the bottom of the device is a Black scroll with the inscription "STAY STRONG NEVER QUIT" in gold letters.
