On a white disc edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) purple border, the overall diameter 3 1/2 (8.89 cm) on which is a purple horse with black shadings between the arching inscription "JAMES" on the left and "MONROE" on the right all in purple letters.
The horse represents the James Monroe High School Maverick Battalion. The animal looks behind while charging forward, acknowledging all the challenges he/she has overcome. Purple, black and white are the schools colors; purple signifies the richness of the education received at James Monroe, black represents the cadet's determination to succeed at all endeavors, and white emblematic of honor.
