Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
 A circular insignia edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border, the overall diameter 3 inches (7.62 cm), consisting of a light blue inner disc edged with a 1/16 inch (.16 cm) blue border on which is a representation of a blue double peaked mountains overall a blue open book, delineated light blue; around the inner disc a light blue and inscribed "METROPOLITAN STATE COLLEGE" in blue letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height

Symbolism
 Light blue and blue are the colors of the college.  The double peaked mountains alluding to the geographic location of the college.  The open book is indicative of scholastic achievement and further represents the overall philosophy of the College, "education should be accessible (open) to all.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 27 May 1982.




Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel shield and scroll 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, the shield of blue enamel with a light blue enamel double peaked mountain; on the blue portion a silver horizontal sword, on the light portion a light blue open book delineated silver.  Attached below the shield a silver horizontal scroll inscribed "METROPOLITAN STATE" in blue enamel letters.

Symbolism
Light blue and blue are the colors of the College.  The double peaks allude to the mountains of Colorado and the geographic location of the College.  The sword is indicative of military science and leadership.  The open book refers to scholastic achievements and further represents the overall philosophy of the College, "education should be accessible (open) to all."
