Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a white disc edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border 3 3/8 inches (8.57 cm) in diameter overall, diplaying a white head and forepaws of a wildcat detailed blue issuing in perspective from a dark blue crack in the white disc,  between inscription "UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY" in blue letters..  

Symbolism
Blue and white are the University colors.  The wildcat is the school's mascot.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 25 July 1967.  That design was cancelled when the current design was approved on 5 July 1995.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-129)

Description/Blazon
 A silver color metal and enamel shield and scroll 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows:  Per bend Argent and Azure, in chief the head of a wildcat couped of the last, in base a mullet of the first.  Attached below the shield a Silver scroll inscribed "DISCO- DUCO-EXCELLO." in Dark Blue letters.

Symbolism
 Blue and white are the colors of the University of Kentucky. The diagonal division indicates joining of the old and new.  The wildcat profile derived from the nickname for the athletic teams of the University, indicated the bold, courageous, aggressive and determined spirit of the ROTC Cadet Brigade.  The star alludes to the aspiration for achievement in the future coupled with honor for past traditions.  It also represents the steady guidance and influence of the Community Colleges, an integral part of the University system and the Army ROTC Cadet Corps.  The white star on a blue background is indicative of the U.S. Military and defense.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 23 March 1968.
