Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
An orange shield shaped device with a blue scroll attached below, all edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) orange border, the overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 3 1/16 inches (7.78 cm) at its widest part; on the shield a yellow demi-torch enflamed edged blue encircled by two blue arched olive branches with stems conjoined in base; on the blue scroll the inscription "SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY" in orange letters 5/16 inches (.79 cm) in height.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 4 August 1977.
Shoulder Loop Insignia
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall, consisting of an orange shield bearing a gold lamp of knowledge superimposed on a gold sword, overall a blue wreath; encircling the shield in base a blue scroll inscribed "SUOS CULTORES SCIENTIA CORONAT" in gold letters.
The school colors are orange and blue. The lamp represents knowledge and the sword represents strength and the military. The wreath represents achievement and merit and is adapted from the university's seal.
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 31 March 1986.
