Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a black shield edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) red border, 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in height by 2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in width a red demi-coyote affront, eyes and teeth white below the inscription "LA JOYA" arcing in red letters above.

Symbolism
Red, white and black are the school colors and represent valor, knowledge and honor.  The coyote is the school's mascot and reflects the cadets' ability to adapt and survive.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 7 November 1996.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-531)

Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of silver background notched around a white cloud formation at upper left above a silver and red landscape.  Overall a dark red baying coyote between the inscription "LA JOYA" above in red letters and "COYOTES" below in silver letters on a red scroll.

Symbolism
Red, white and black are the school colors.  The coyote is the school's mascot and reflects the cadets' ability to adapt to harsh surroundings and their resourcefulness in meeting a challenge.
