Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
A circular device edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, the overall diameter 3 inches (7.62 cm) the background horizontally divided blue above gray, over which is a yellow horizontal band bearing a black panther delineated gray.   On the blue, an arced EIU'' in yellow letters 7/16 inch (1.11 cm) in height.  On the gray portion an arced inscription "PANTHERS" in yellow letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) inch in height.

Symbolism
 Blue and gray are the colors of the University.  The panther is the University's mascot.  The color yellow, alluding to gold, alludes to excellence and lofty standards academically, physically and in military science.

The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 16 July 1982. 




Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield vertically divided blue and gray on which is the gold outline of an open book surmounted by a gold sword in the vertical center with blade up, overall on the book a black enamel panther.  Attached above the shield a gold horizontal scroll inscribed "EIU" and attached below the shield a gold horizontal scroll inscribed "PANTHERS" all letters black enamel.

Symbolism
Blue and gray are the colors of the University.  The open book alludes to knowledge.  The sword is indicative of the military.  The panther is the University's mascot.  Gold, emblematic of excellence, refers to the lofty standards of the University. 

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 16 July 1982.
