Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
A circular device 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter overall consisting of an inner crimson disc charged with a gray torch enflamed issuing from base within six white vapor trails cheveronwise, three to dexter and three to sinister the apex terminating below a gray star arraswise edged white, the disc within a gray band edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) crimson border, and inscribed "FLORIDA" at the top and "INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY" in base in crimson letters.
Crimson and gray are the colors of the Institute. The torch enflamed alludes to the ROTC program, and to academic achievements. The star in perspective emitting vapor trails is representative of space and technological aspects of the Institute.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 30 July 1969.
Shoulder Loop Insignia
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a red enamel shield on which is a silver color metal star emitting five silver color metal vapor trails chevronwise to base. Attached below the shield a silver color metal scroll inscribed "AD ASTRA PER SCIENTIA" in red enamel letters.
Crimson and gray (silver) are the colors of the Institute. The star emitting vapor trails, taken from the device of the Institute, alludes to space and to the technological aspects of the Institute.
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 30 July 1969.
