Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
 A disc 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height overall consisting of a dark blue inner disc bearing a yellow jaguar's head raguly above two yellow crossed quills.  Around the inner disc a light blue and band inscribed "SOUTHERN" above and "UNIVERSITY" below in yellow letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.

Symbolism
Blue and yellow are the colors associated with the University.  The jaguar is the University's mascot.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized on 14 October 1969.  It was amended to change the inscription on the designation band on 7 February 1983.

Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device consisting of a shield with arced designation scroll attached below, the overall height 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm); on the teal blue shield eight teal blue horizontal stripes surmounted by a gold jaguar's head in profile couped at the neck, in base two gold quills saltirewise.  On the arced gold scroll the inscription "SOUTHERN UNIV. AND A&M COLLEGE" in teal blue letters.  

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 11 January 1982.  It was amended to include a manufacturing drawing and update the description on 12 January 2001.
