An embroidered item consisting of a silver gray oval shape that is horizontal across the bottom. Surrounding the silver gray background is a narrow black border 1/16 inch (0.16 cm), then a 1/32 inch (0.08 cm) gray border and a 1/32 inch (0.08 cm) black border. Emerging from the left side of the background is the upper half of the mythological Greek God, Triton. Issuing from the right side of the background is Triton's fish tail. Triton is facing forward with his head turned slightly to the right and grasping a trident that is positioned diagonally with the point up in his left hand and a twisted conch shell in his right. Triton, the conch shell, and fish tail are white with black details and the trident is black. Surrounding the Triton is a white designation band edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border inscribed "MARINER" at the top and "HIGH SCHOOL" at the bottom all in black letters. The overall dimensions are 3 3/8 inches (8.57 cm) in width and 2 3/8 inches (6.03 cm) in height.
Black and silver are the school colors. Black symbolizes the cadet's determination to succeed in all endeavors with dignity and sophistication. Silver (Gray) represents the cadet's maturity with the courage to act responsibly and possess uncompromising integrity. The school's mascot is a Triton, a mythological Greek god and messenger of the sea. Triton is represented as a merman with the upper body of a human and the tail of a fish. Triton's special attribute was a twisted conch shell, on which he blew like a trumpet to calm or raise the waves of the sea. Triton is the son of Poseidon, god of the sea and Amphitrite, goddess of the sea. Like his father, Poseidon, Triton carried a trident.
