Symbolism
Maroon and gold (yellow) are the colors of the University.  The two wolves with the kettle suspended from pot hooks were taken from the coat of arms of the Loyola family.  The wolves and pot symbolize the family name, as "LOBO" is the Spanish word for wolf and "OLLA" the word for pot.  The seven yellow diagonal stripes represent seven bars of gold granted by King Alonzo, as a mark of bravery, to seven heroes of the family who distinguished themselves in the Battle of Beotibar (1321).

The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 22 September 1975.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-205)
