Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a Black disc edged with a 1/16 inch (.16 cm) inner Scarlet border, surmounted by a shield, blazoned as follows: Argent, a couped Cardinal's head in profile Gules, detailed Sable, beaked Or, and eyed of the first, all encircled by a White designation band edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Scarlet border inscribed "MACARTHUR HS" at top and "CARDINAL BATTALION" all in Black letters, the overall diameter 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm).

Symbolism
Red, white, and black are the colors of the MacArthur High School Cardinal Battalion.  The cardinal is the mascot of MacArthur High and symbolizes the holiday spirit and grace of flight.  The white band is emblematic of honor and excellence.   

Background
 The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 14 June1976.  It was cancelled due to a new design, updated description and symbolism and approved on 7 January 2013.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-1051)

Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield shape blazoned: Argent, the head of a cardinal bird erased, facing sinister, Proper, overall a bordure Gules.  Attached below the shield, a silver tripartite scroll inscribed "LEADERSHIP, DISCIPLINE, EXCELLENCE" in black letters.

Symbolism
Red, black, and white (silver) are the school colors. Red embodies the spirit of the Cardinal Battalion, black represents determination, and white is for the honor of being a cadet in the Army Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps.  The Cardinal is the school's mascot and symbolizes loyalty and grace.
