Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a red disc 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter overall, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, a white disc bearing a cross of seven red stars, five vertical and two horizontal, between a red palm tree and a red citrus tree with white fruit; encircled by the inscription "FLORIDA SOUTHERN" above and "COLLEGE" below in white letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.

Symbolism
 Red and white are the colors associated with Florida Southern College.  The stars represent the constellation of stars known as the Southern Cross, alluding to the name of the college.  The trees suggest Lakeland, Florida, the home of the college.

The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 9 January 1985.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-203)

Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel insignia consisting of a coiled serpent of silver behind a white shield bearing seven red stars in the form of a cross within a red border, both shield and serpent supported by a scroll inscribed "FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE" and surmounted by a second scroll inscribed "LUX SAPIENTIA LEX"; both silver with red letters; insignia to be 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height and 7/8 inch (2.22 cm) 
in width

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 16 November 1955.
