Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
A shield with a tab attached above, all edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width consisting of a blue upper portion bearing a white spear on a diagonal from lower left to upper right and pendant with two white feathers below the inscription on a diagonal "SOUTH" and "DOYLE" in white letters; all above a middle red band charged with four yellow stars on the horizontal.  The lower portion has three white and two red alternating horizontal bands.

Symbolism
Red, blue and gold (yellow) are the school colors.  The spear is the symbol of the school and reflects its physical approximation to the Cherokee Reservation.  The stars represent the four classes of the school from which the cadet corps is comprised.  The red and white band, in association with the blue, alludes to the national flag, symbolizing the cadet's dedication and service to community, state, and nation.

Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a blue shield bearing a red and silver Cherokee warrior in profile above the inscription "BATTALION" in silver letters.  Above the shield a blue scroll, the ends in the form of silver rattlesnake, tails, and surmounted at top by a silver four-pointed star, shaded red.  Inscribed on the scroll in the word "Cherokee" in silver letters.

Symbolism
Blue, red, and gold are the school colors.  The Cherokee warrior with victory feathers suggests the proud heritage of the Native Americans, whose ancestral home is geographically near the school.  The rattlesnake tails symbolize good and evil in Cherokee tradition and denote the dedication of the students to the Cadet Creed.  The compass star reflects the cadets' involvement in their community.
