A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield shape blazoned as follows: Per bend Sable and Gules, a torch bendwise Argent enflamed of the second, in chief four crenels of the first . Attached above the shield, a silver scroll inscribed "FORTITUDO" in red letters. Attached below the shield, a silver scroll inscribed "SOUTH" on the first fold and "ROWAN" on the second fold in black letters.
Red, black, and white (silver) are the school colors. The crenels suggest a tower embattlement and support the Raider Battalion's Latin motto, "FORTITUDO", which in English translate to strength. The torch is a symbol of knowledge and is enflamed red to represent the determination of every cadet to succeed scholastically.
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 24 March 2013.
