Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
On a white disc edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) maroon border, the overall diameter 3 inches (7.62 cm), a maroon cogwheel on which is a white torch inflamed issuing in the vertical center, surmounted by a white plow. Above the cogwheel the inscription ALABAMA A&M and below the cogwheel the inscription UNIVERSITY all in maroon letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.
Maroon and white are the colors of the University. The cogwheel and the plow allude to the function of the University in Agriculture and Mechanics. The torch enflamed refers to military leadership and academic achievement.

Shoulder Loop Insignia
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a maroon enamel shield on which is a silver color metal academic cap and a plow. Arced below the shield a silver color metal scroll inscribed SERVICE IN SOVEREIGNTY in maroon enamel letters.
Maroon and white (silver) are the colors of the University. The academic cap commemorates academic achievement. The plow and motto are taken from the seal of the University.
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 16 August 1972.
