On an embroidered shield shaped, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) in Bronze border, blazoned as follows: Sable a cross flory quarterly Argent (White) and Argent (Silver Gray); attached above the shield a Black scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Bronze-border inscribed PROVIDENCE in White letters. The overall dimension is 3 1/8 inches (7.94 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.
Black, white and silver are the school colors. Black signifies the determination and dignity of the cadets, while white reflects truth. Silver represents the will to succeed in all endeavors. The cross is a representation of the Dominican Cross which was taken from the arms of the Dominican Order that founded the college.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 19 July 1951. The SSI was cancelled due to a new design by letter dated 19 October 1951, it is currently amended this date (27 August 2013), to authorize the wear of the new design by the SROTC cadets assigned to Providence College.
