Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description
A gold metal enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height overall consisting of a white enamel shield charged with a red enamel Latin cross flory bearing three gold crowns palewise upon and over the vertical arms; above the shield an arced white enamel scroll inscribed BOSTON UNIVERSITY and below the shield an arced white enamel scroll inscribed LEARNING VIRTUE PIETY, all letters gold.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 2 March 1959.  It was amended to remove the initials ROTC on 5 March 1982
