Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description
On a red keystone-shaped device edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border, a silver gray sword flament yellow below the inscription VULCANS in black letters 3/8 inches (.95 cm) in height.  The dimensions of the insignia are 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height by 3 inches (7.62 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Red and black are the school colors.  The flaming sword suggests Vulcan, the Roman God of Fire and Steel, the school's mascot.  The sword also represents the military (ROTC) training at the University.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 4 February 1988.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S- 30)




Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a black shield bearing a red stylized clock tower between two gold rampant guardant lions, all above gold flame issuant from base.  Attached below the shield a gold scroll doubled and inscribed FIRE GOD in red letters

Symbolism
Red and black are the school colors.  The clock tower represents the Old Main building, a campus landmark and is depicted on the Universitys seal.  The lions are guardant and suggest ROTC training as guardians of Americas freedoms.  The flame alludes to the school mascot. Vulcan, the Roman God of Fire.
