Shoulder Loop Insignia

Description
 A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a coat of arms blazoned:  SHIELD:  per fess Argent and Purpure between two sabers in saltire Or a flame in chief Gules and a quill palewise in base Gold.  CREST:  From a wreath Or, a globe Gold.  Attached below the shield a gold scroll inscribed EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY in black letters.                    

Symbolism
The crossed sabers represent the integrity, courage and leadership capabilities required to secure a commission in the U.S. Army.  The flame reflects knowledge and excellence symbolic of the Cadet Corps.  The quill alludes to ability to express knowledge.  The globe symbolizes the worldwide influence of graduates of the program.  The white of the shield signifies integrity and purple represents the university.

Background
 The shoulder loop insignia was approved on 29 January 1996.
