Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
On a maroon disc with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter overall, a white disc bearing a maroon and white pirates head garnished yellow encircled by the inscription CENTRAL STATE above and UNIVERSITY below in yellow letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm)  in height.

Symbolism
Maroon and gold (yellow) are the school colors and the mascot is a pirate.

 The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 1 March 1985.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-215)

Description
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a gold color metal sun with seventeen rays surmounted by a maroon enamel open book in perspective, its pages inscribed VERITAS ET LUX on the dexter side and RECTA ET HONOR on the sinister side in gold color metal letters, all encompassed by an arced maroon enamel scroll inscribed CENTRAL STATE UNIVERSITY        

Symbolism
Maroon and gold are the colors of the University.  The sun adapted from the seal of the University, is indicative of the fact that Ohio was first state west of the Alleghenies.  The seventeen rays allude to Ohio being the seventeenth state to join the Union.  The open book represents knowledge.  The gold of the sun commemorates academic achievement.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 3 February 1971.
